Ocean Trails Reserve Palos Verdes

This amazing place I want to show you is called the Palos Verdes Peninsula, a unique area located about 30 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles.

This is a hike where the payoff comes with every step you take, not just in a hero view from a summit perch. The ocean side trails of Rancho Palos Verdes keep the dramatic Pacific in sight—and its breezes on your skin—all along the 5 miles of clearly marked paths of the Ocean Trails Reserve. They take you from the sand on the shore to a balcony view of the blue horizon.

IMG_2394Ocean Trails by Trump National Golf is part of ten reserves that make up the 1,400 acres in Palos Verdes Nature Preserve. It’s a great hike for beginner hikers, starting off from a beautiful golf course with a big American flag standing adjacent to the trail where you will start from.

SAM_0239The coastal trail is a 5.1 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail, but must be kept on leash.

SAM_0229Along with over 5 miles worth of scenic ocean trails lined with coastal sage, cacti and native vegetation, this area has interesting television and film history. In 1996, MTV used surrounding areas of the peninsula to film the MTV Beach House. In addition, FOX filmed scenes from the hit show The O.C in the surrounding area, and many of the Disney scenes for multiple Pirates of the Caribbean films were shot along the bluffs and coast. Also, the Catalina scenes from the movie Stepbrothers were filmed here as well.

You can find the trailhead at the address below. There is a small FREE public parking lot, just follow the signs. Be sure to wear the proper shoes, as the beach is quite rocky at the bottom.
